Through a new course offered by the Center of Service-Learning and Civic Engagement, University of Cincinnati students are serving the community and connecting with a demographic they may not usually think about: the elderly.
The Driving Community Connections course allows students to volunteer to drive aging adults around the Cincinnati area. The program, which began this semester, also gives students the opportunity to learn about the service industry.
“There are a lot of things we just don’t understand about aging because we’re all too young,” said Michael Sharp, director of the Center of Service-Learning and Civic Engagement. “With this program, we can teach students about engaging with the elderly.”
