ITNCharlestonTrident celebrated providing its 50,000th dignified ride since its First Ride on November 15, 2006 with rides delivered by area elected officials. Charleston Council Chair Elliott Summey, City of North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey, Town of Mount Pleasant Mayor Linda Page, Charleston County Council Member Teddie Pryor and City of Charleston Council Member Dean Riegel provided rides for ITN member riders on Tuesday, April 7th and Wednesday April 8th to help celebrate the 50,000th ride provided by ITNCharlestonTrident. All four government entities are long-time supporters of ITN CharlestonTrident’s dignified transportation program for seniors and the visually impaired.
During the eight and a half years of providing dignified transportation to seniors 60 and older and visually impaired adults, nearly 1000 member riders have counted on ITNCharlestonTrident to provide them with safe, reliable and affordable transportation while countless numbers of family members were confident their Mom or Dad were in good hands.
Utilizing standard automobiles with volunteers using their own vehicles and paid drivers using donated cars, ITNCharlestonTrident’s goal is to enable its member riders to enjoy the freedom and independence that comes from being able to go to any destination for any purpose in the areas served by ITN. All of ITNCharlestonTrident’s drivers, both volunteers and paid, undergo a thorough background and driving record check and participate in a comprehensive training program before providing their first ride. Providing reliable and on-time rides with a focus on a high level of customer service is the hallmark of the ITNCharlestonTrident door-though-door dignified transportation program.
ITNCharlestonTrident’s volunteer drivers routinely provide nearly 50% or more of all of the dignified rides provided to member riders.
Member riders have this to say about their experience with ITN:
Louise: I love all of the drivers! There is not one who is not a joy to ride with. Each is special to me. Many thanks to them all.
Molly: I will be 88 in April and the drivers treat me like a QUEEN!!
Greta: Kathy and Sandy are the two drivers I see the most and they are both great! I sure couldn’t get by without ITN.
Edna: It was so lovely to meet the young man who gave me the ride home from church last Sunday. Such a nice young man.
