Baby boomers will have limited choices for transportation as they age, report says

The baby boomer generation is starting to retire and, in the not-too-distant future, many will reluctantly start turning in their cars as the infirmities of age take hold.

That could be a big problem in Orlando and much of the country because millions of boomers will have little access to public transportation such as buses or trains, according to a study released Tuesday by Americans for Transportation, which promotes mass transit.

Another option for seniors: Independent Transportation Network Orlando [ITNOrlando], a largely volunteer group that takes seniors to and from their destinations for a small fee. The group has nearly 300 clients, almost 50 volunteers and provides about 500 rides a month….
